Why does everyone seem to be so obsessed with self hatred, perfection/imperfection, worthy/worthless etc and is this as prolific in the autism community as it is in the NT one?

It's because of are modern culture more then anything. This way of thinking is prolific just about everywhere and not just limited to the autistic community.

If they say why, why, tell 'em that it's human nature.

Just how people are drawn to the bad news, they're also more likely to notice the people who complain, more than most of the people around who feel average, or happy people.

Its a good question. I am tempted to think it has to do with what people spend their time doing, the envirionment they are in, in current times. Smudge hit on one aspect of being exposed to news (and in the present day, lots of news).

I contrast that with the previous 100's of thousands of years where we were mainly occupied with basic survival needs (ie, food, shelter, safety).

If I understood your question, that is a good thing not a bad thing. It means we don't have much worse things to worry about like basic necessities, not being killed or enslaved or oppressed etc
so we spend our days worrying about our worthy in our cozy rooms eating chocolate bars.

Well that's easy for you to say! You live in one of the main (and few) chocolate growing areas. What happens to the rest of us if something happens to the crops? You will still probably be able to always scrape together a few beans but we... we will kill each other for the few remaining half-melt Hershey Kisses.

I think only the strongest and most ruthless Post-Apocalyptic groups will possess the kind of quality chocolate you need.

Most care about fitting in, most want wealth and love, both require you to fit in...

Most people want acceptance and survival..

Science, art, history, the true nature of reality, exploring and appreciating things of beauty, music, where we came from, philosophy, the moment you are living in, touch, intimacy, sharing, caring, joy.

Anything but this self obsession with the state of ones own ego.
