My old man was a leftist and drove me to be a hard-hearted evil conservative. It was all the preaching about redistribution of wealth and the need to ban or regulate the hell out of anything he didnt like. Other things but those were the two biggest.

Authoritarianism is on the left an right.

The popular regessiveness is an example of authoritarianism.

Liberal has an original meaning which is quite different from how it is used in the US

Conservative is a relative term. It depends what you are trying conserve. You could technically have a conservative liberal such as a classical liberal
