About to order a new Dell system. Looks like they all come with Windows Vista now. How is it going for those of you with Vista?

When I tried Vista practically nothing on my computer worked as it should. You should get a Mac instead.

Just see if you can still get XP. Vista will be useless for a while.

If you call in you can make them put XP on instead.

I have never used Vista. Apparently it needs an 800MHz processor minimum which I don;t have.

From what I have seen of it though it looks rubbish and even if I did have a suitable graphics card and processor I probably wouldn;t want to get Vista.

I am interested to hear other people's opinions on it though.

NEVER upgrade from XP. Do a fresh installation of Vista, or buy a modern computer with preinstalled Vista. Or buy a Mac.

Not a Vista preacher, myself. I still think it needed a few Release Candidates before being released to the public.

I'm running it on an Athlon 64+ at 2.2 GHz with 1.0 GB ram and the word "glacial" comes to mind for performance...

Wait at least that a Service Pack gets released (Likely by the third quarter of this year.)

Stay XP, Go for Linux or Mac. Those are your ideal options.

The only plus side it seems to owning a Vista operating system is you can play Halo 2 on the PC when it released :(

If you had downloaded Vista Rc 1 or 2 when released then you could have test driven it for free until june this year as I have. Let's face it, Vista is the future whether you like it or not. Uncle Bill will see to that. In use Vista is quite good actually, much 'smarter' than XP. Drivers are the biggest problem at the moment but that will soon change. Getting some older games and programs to work is another. It was the same when XP came out.

Vista is useless unless you want dx 10,other than that just get a used PC with XP or build one with XP or linux.

I got a new Dell a few weeks ago, opted for Vista on the advice of 2 people I know who are computer-savvy. Started getting error messages from day one. When I called Dell software support (4 times) they all blamed vista. They all said to me "Microsoft is working night and day to come up with fixes". Seems Bill put this one out way too early. I'm averaging 3 error messages every time I restart my computer, so Dell has kindly offered to replace my whole laptop. I'll give Vista one more try, and if it still doesn't work, I'm requesting XP.

Can't see that Vista is all that different, in fact there are a few things about both Vista and Office 2007 that IMO are worse than predecessors. Vista at this point is an unstable operating system. But what can we do? Bill has the monopoly and that's not likely to change any time soon, I figure. Unless one of you guys can figure out a way to beat him at his own game :D

I bought an iMac because I took Vista for a test drive and it was terrible. No error on the iMac until Windows gets involved (Parallels & Boot Camp)
