Were it possible to go back and do it all over again, and you could choose to retain, lessen the severity of, or cancel out your ASD condition completely, how would you choose ?

NT = Neurotypical

ASD = Autism Spectrum Disorder

I would not have changed mine. Certain key aspects of my personality and psychology, that I once thought just my own unique composition, I now believe the result of having ASD. And I see ASD as allowing me a special window of insight and observation that I do not believe NTs typically have. In my case at least, it seems to outweigh the disadvantages. Strange perhaps, but true. 8O

I wish I was NT sometimes, only because I get confused in the world.

But I might get confused even if I was NT.

I don't know.

woudnt change a thing, a neurology change woud be the biggest and most difficult change to ever come to terms with, an autism cure also woudnt take away the fact am intelectualy disabled;woud just be low functioning instead of LFA.
am also at peace with self and life which is the main thing for hating the idea of a neurology switchover.
am not stupid nor in need of a change, more in need of understanding and the correct support.

I would almost want to become completely NT, except that I like a lot of the positive traits that come with being an aspie, like my heightened senses, ability to memorize loads of random trivia, and my seemingly-natural gift for working with computers. Being somewhat hyperlexic is pretty cool as well. If I could somehow have all of the positive traits without any of the negatives, then that would be awesome. Unfortunately, to eliminate those negative traits, a lot of the positive traits would be eliminated as well, as they are intertwined to an extent.

Tough one. I need to see how my life continues to turn out before I can make a decision on something like this.

I also voted to stay the same. I do feel a little divided sometimes, but my experiences have right me a more unique worldview. I was recently complemented about how I see multiple angles of problems/solutions, and I believe that's from trying to work around my own TOM issues. Maybe, anyway.... :duh:

I would have chosen to be NT. The less autistic, the higher the chances of living the social life which I unconsciously crave for...

I'm glad that I'm an Aspie and would never change anything about it.
