Looking to start AS/Autism Meetup group in eastern NY state

I have had moderate success with Meetup groups since I attended my first event at the beginning of this year; my parents, though, floated the idea of joining an Autism/AS support group in the Albany/Schenectady/Troy, NY area (aka the "Capital District"/"Capital Region"). There is a Meetup group dealing with this sort of issue, but I've never been able to make any of the meetups given when and where these events take place. I'm thinking about something that would be friendlier to those of my ilk in the aforementioned area. Is this a good idea? Any comments/questions?

There should be one for the NYC area as well!
