While obesity makes it
much more likely for you to have a whole host of health problems, it is by no means across the board. It is the same as with smoking. If you smoke, you are much more likely to have health problems, by it is not a certainty.
You have to be careful with statistics. What is applicable to a population is not applicable to an individual. On the individual level it is percentages of likelihood, not certainty.
For example, I'll use made up stat much more drastic than reality:
If 99.9% of obese people develop at least minor cardiovascular disease, then out of a population of 100,000 people, 100
individuals will have zero cardiovascular issues.
