Do you often miss what people say? Sometimes I just get their words jumbled up or just can't comprehend what they mean at all!

Yep, it happens ALL the time.
If it's something important and I really need to 'get it' I try to paraphrase what they've said.
Other than that, I watch tv with the closed captions on.

occasionally, i can hear stuff that i wasn't even listening to (with a short pause, i can think back to the sounds, if it was recent)

Yes, this has happened to me before. I usually ask them to repeat what they say like, "What!! !" and they say, "Oh well, never mind."

Happens constantly
I have really good hearing in general but often misunderstand people particularly if we are in a place with any backround noise

it's not like i have a problem with my hearing but i do find myself inadvertently tuning out of what people are saying, especially when i am tired and what people are saying becomes an incoherent noise.

Yes......This is really getting worse for me.I am training for a new job and constantly have to ask my manager to repeat herself......it's very embarrassing and frustrating.I dont know if it's due to back ground noise or this individuals talking style.....but half the things she says are just gibberish to me.It doesnt help that she will "think aloud" while giving me instruction.....so she will say to do some thing one way and then ,pause for a second and then say to do it another way.....my brain is still trying to visualize the first set of instructions and then she changes it mid stream. It is driving me a bit nuts.....and some how I am the one that comes off as "thick".

Oh yeah. I mishear a lot of stuff that gets said to me. It's really annoying and people just don't understand how much effort a "normal" conversation takes because of the fact I have to listen to what people say twice in my head. I hear it once then replay it back in my head just to make sure I have heard what I thought I heard. And the bad thing is that it doesn't work most of the time either. Even after all that effort I put into a conversation, I usually end up getting the words wrong.

Or, the words will literally go right past me. So I'm either jumbling up what the person is saying to me. Or, and you can thank my ADD, I never really hear them in the first place. So I'm having to pay such close attention that it weras me out. It takes honest-to-God physical effort to listen attentively as I need to.

And it really embarrasses me to have to ask someone to repeat themselves.

>.<

Totally. Sometimes a sentence blows by me as does the wind. I'm also very bad at following instructions because there are so many inferences required.

Yeah, sometimes. Then people have to repeat what they said to me!

yes, and it seems to ruin the fluency of the conversation.
