It's my special interest :D
I like: Walk The Moon, Vampire Weekend, Magic Man, Alt-J, Local Natives, Bastille, Bombay Bicycle Club, Twenty One Pilots, Foals, Mumford & Sons, Two Door Cinema Club, St. Lucia, Foster The People, MGMT, The Neighbourhood, Modest Mouse, Grizzly Bear, Beach House, Animal Collective, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Cage The Elephant, The Decemberists, etc...

Does anyone else like indie music?

I would bet that most people under the age of about 35, within this site, like Indie Rock.

I like about half the bands you listed. My favourite modern rock artists are Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Frank Turner, and The National, as well as the various projects of Jack White and Damon Albarn.

I was really into what can be described indie rock in high school when it was not so cool unfortunately, I still like it a lot although I now compliment it with grunge. I do wonder if some of the leading bands have lost some of the "indie" in indie rock though with the major labels getting involved.

As far as I know the band in my avatar, Coheed and Cambria now fits the in the indie rock genre by definition although its sonic properties perhaps not.

They are signed to a major label, at least they were last time I checked.

They did with Columbia, then Roadrunner(I don't recall when they were bought) however now there with Everything Evil, a label that I can't find any information on however that was the name of a song on their first record back in the Equal Vision days so I kind of think they may have taken back over their own affairs?

I do know some of the bands listed above have signed to the majors.

I love a lot of the Indie music that was around when I was a student (the mid 'eighties) This was more "Indie Pop" than "Indie Rock" I guess and was largely UK based. This includes:

The Wedding Present
The Jesus and Mary Chain
The Woodentops
Stump
The Shop Assistants
James
My Bloody Valentine
Bogshed
The House of Love
The Weather Prophets
The Field Mice
Talulah Gosh

etc

Nights Like These, do you go to any local shows and have any local-ish indie bands to recommend since we live so close?

A couple indie rock bands I have seen and like The Reason and The Arkills, actually Hamilton Ontario has always been a good hotspot for developing indie bands. Also Matt Mays is another good Canadian to look up.
