Hi there. As a kid I used to spend hours digging. I found Mica to be facinating. Peeling them apart and peeling.....let go....LOL
Loved purple quartz too.
Oh, and is it slate? Grey rock, layers? Found trilobite fossils in them.
Which led to hours of rock smashing. And hours.

"rocks"......first and longest lasting interest.Memory problems made memorizing the scientific names impossible for me but I love spending hours searching for fossils and "pretty rocks".....I live in MN,agates are easy to find around Lake Superior and elsewhere, moved by glaciers and (best place),Mall Parking lots... 8O I will be hunting them down in the little parking lot isles
and have strangers ask me..."Did you lose something?"..........I use to reply "no"....now I say...."MY MIND"and laugh maniacally.

I also love fire agates, fire opals and Amber.

The state mineral in Texas is some sort of agate.

I have a piece of greenish quartz (I think) that I picked up off the ground a while back. I need to polish the surface to get the most out of it but I love it.

I cannot believe I forgot about Jade.

Limestone is everywhere in Houston. It is used in many buildings in here.

Unfortunately, there is always the occasional sinkhole associated with limestone. The area near the Medical Center/Reliant Stadium/Astrodome area is the most likely part of Houston for sinkholes.

Ah, but you can always excavate a wine cellar out of limestone.

Thats my point heating the quartz sand which is primarily a crystalline product to a high enough temperature in earth's gravity (and not in a special solution under pressure with a seed crystal) will result in primarily amorphous silicon dioxide which
does meet the definition of mere glass. Since its the simplest glass mixture. More common glass will have additional additives.
