You inspect every gift for sensory problems.
Basic things like books might have weirdly-textured pages.
Clothing might have a scent.
Heaven forbid anything have a seam.
Pretty much everything goes back to the store, even if you chose it.

You wear something uncomfortable for five minutes.
You can still feel it hurting your skin hours later.

You either don't act happy and surprised when you open your holiday gifts or force yourself to look that way due to years of high-masking.

You don't get surprise gifts, ever.
People have learned that you're too picky about the sensory requirements.
They make you choose your own gifts, pay for them, and wrap them.
Even then you don't usually keep them.

You hate being seen as picky.

If this ^ sounds horrible, because you have no desire for playdates or a social life at all beyond your partner and kids.

I wouldn't want anyone arranging plans on my behalf.
Making them "girly dates" sounds even worse.

No offence Caz. I hope you like it. That's just not my cuppa tea at all.

Your childhood was spent with anxiety and fear of being "found out"

…you can identify locations purely by smell.

If your spouse is getting better at lining jars up neatly with their labels facing forward.

My NT partner does this. I just throw all the jars on to the shelf in no particular order and it drives him mad lol (not in an aggressive way or anything) but he does like to "display" everything in the kitchen like he's opening a shop or museum.

I'm a no-particular-order person myself.
It's likely my ADHD.

I have breakthrough moments of precision though.
Today I was carrying individual specks of dust to the trash.
