I'm 37 and I'm in my first long term relationship ever. Make that first real relationship at all. Before, I would not be able to get past the dreaded third date scenario. I have no framework of experience from which to draw. Any advice?

My advice, for what it's worth:
Always try to be present when you are actively being together. Bring your full attention to your partner.
When it comes to your instincts about things, trust but verify. Don't assume that your assumptions are correct.
Try to remember that your partner has a unique perspective that may be very different from your own.
It isn't easy to measure the inner being of another so be diligent in sounding out those depths.
Be considerate and kind to your partner and yourself.
Try to enjoy as much as possible and to share that enjoyment.
