Hello,

I was wondering if anyone in the Vancouver, BC area has any experience seeing/working with Dr. Jim Roche at RelatedMinds.
He seems to be the most prominent psychologist who does Adult ASD diagnosis in Vancouver. I have been thinking about going to see him for an assessment, but would be interested to hear what others think of him before going ahead with it. Seeing a psychologist is expensive, and I want to make sure I am spending the money on someone who can actually help.

Alternatively, does anyone know of any good psychiatrists in the area who can do diagnosis in adults? Having the cost covered by health care would be super helpful.

Thanks!

Nope.

I looked up his contact info, and others, a year and a half or so ago and contemplated going to meet with one of them but then never did.

I've found it's been infinitely better to have figured out how to treat myself and reduce/eliminate symptoms vs. go talk to someone about how symptoms continue to persist. See the thread in my sig for what I'm talking about.

How long has this guy been in practice? I've never heard of him. Nobody on this side of the Georgia Strait ever said word one about him. Is he covered by medical or does he cost money to go to? I was diagnosed by a head injury specialist in Victoria.

He's a psychologist so he costs money unless you have private insurance (which I do not).
He has supposedly been practicing for over 25 years??? He's the main (aka only) specialist who pops up when you google "adult autism Vancouver".

I can't link to it but his website is called RelatedMinds

I've only heard his name. I've never worked with him or met him.

You're in Canada - why would you have to pay to see a psychologist? If your doctor refers you that is. :?
When I asked my doctor to refer me for assessment, I said "but only if it's covered under OHIP" and he assured me it was.

Sorry if that's a dumb question :)

In BC, and I think most provinces, psychologists are not covered because they are not technically medical doctors or some crap. Psychiatrists are because they are medical doctors.

The lack of financial support for mental health concerns is of eternal frustration to me.

in Canada also check out "embrace autism" and see their facebook pages for great insights. They do online assessments :)
