There was a comics crash? I guess that was mainly superhero comics and not the "funny" comics I usually read. :) Or do you mean comic strips instead of comic books? After Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side got "retired" newspaper comic strips have just not been the same...

Video game, the comic book crash had many casualties, but many prevailed in these times. And it was when it started a new wave of collectible craze for them and for companies to diversify their products to avoid similar pitfalls.

The video game crash came after a flood of lackluster or broken games along with the flood of every company trying to get into this industry. There was a few years where it was uncertain that the industry wouldn't die. PC survived because it was also used as a work tool. And when the rebirth came with Nintendo, they advertised it as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and not a video game console because they were afraid it would go bust if it did.
