I don't seek out mirrors, but if I end up in front of a mirror, for some reason I feel the urge to just look at myself, which I can do for a long time. Not because I am vain or checking myself out or anything weird like that, I don't exactly know why I do it. I think I might be just trying to see what I look like to others and how others might see me as a result.
Sometimes when looking in the mirror I also get this weird sort of head rush feeling, where I briefly feel like I am looking at someone else and not myself; it's hard to describe, but it's like I'm questioning my own existence. I don't think that is a normal thing that a lot of people do, so I am wondering if maybe it's something related to AS.

Yeah. It's something like asking myself, routinely, "Now what's my mind doing in there?". I think we on the spectrum are much better about identifying ourselves by what we do, as opposed to how we look.

I can spend a lot of time in front of a mirror. Not really about what i look like but just studying my features up close. The hairs on my eyebrows, my skin texture, my teeth, my tongue, underneath my tongue....stuff like that.

I don't spend a lot of time in front of the mirror but I study my facial features a bit too. I mostly study my eyes though (the pattern and colour etc).

Yes that for me too. And the shape and contours of my nose and lips and ears.
I like my eyes a lot. This is a pic of my eyeball I did for something once...

I stare at mirrors sometimes too. I'm fascinated with my own appearance, not in a narcissistic way, but wondering what other people think when they see me. I think I look very strange.

I thought that was what most people do, particularly women. Often I catch my mum staring at herself in the mirror for ages, and once I asked her why she was doing that and she practically said the same as what the OP said. She's NT.

only when i'm the comfort of my own house. i can't stand being in mirrors in public, i avoid them as much as i can.
i feel awkward, i look awkward, gangly and i often wonder how i look like to other people. i think my profile is rather odd. birdlike.
but at home i like how i look. especially at night for some reason.

...I remember something F. Scott Fitzgerald said about " seeing actors at parties who try to avoid looking into mirrors so they won't be accused of being vain " !
