Just found out Prozac has fluoride in it, and I'm already on a high fluoride toothpaste, and using fluoride mouthwash. Don't suppose anyone knows if taking Prozac as well could be a dangerous dose? I have IBS as well, and I don't want that to get worse.

why not go into the local chemist and ask them as they shoud be trained in all medications? not sure if it works differently in the US though.

am due to be starting on prozac soon as well, still tapering off cymbalta slowly, hopefuly just one more week.

The fluoride in SSRIs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluoride_toxicity is fluorine, described as a less-toxic fluoride. But, it is a mistake to believe that all fluorides are the same and conflate natural calcium fluoride https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium_fluoride, which is the least-toxic fluoride, with other fluorides, which are more toxic.

Fluorosilicic acid, for example, is a toxic liquid by-product, acquired by scrubbing the chimney stacks of phosphate fertilizer manufacture. Other names for it are hexafluorosilicic, hexafluosilicic, hydrofluosilicic, and silicofluoric acid. The CDC approximates http://www.cdc.gov/fluoridation/fact_sh ... ives.htm#1 that 95 percent of U.S. drinking water is fluoridated with fluorosilicic acid. In 2011, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reduced the amount of hydrofluorosilicic acid http://www.ewg.org/news/news-releases/2 ... king-water in U.S. drinking water. Most water filters cannot filter hydrofluorosilicic acid from water; but, some do.

Sodium fluoride is used in most toothpastes, mouthwashes, dental varnish, dental preparations and nutritional supplements. This same form of fluoride is used as an insecticide and pesticide, as a preservative in glues, as a growth inhibitor for bacteria, fungi and mold. Sodium fluoride is also used in making steel and aluminum products. Added to molten metal, sodium fluoride creates a more uniform metal. Other industrial uses for sodium fluoride include glass frosting and wood preservatives. Sodium fluoride is also used in the manufacture of chemical and biological weapons. Some dental-hygiene products exclude fluoride products; read the ingredients.

You are right to look for ways to lower your fluoride consumption (aside from calcium fluoride). EWG's senior vice president for research, Jane Houlihan, stated in 2011 that "[s]ince 2005, EWG has been calling on federal agencies to respond to these findings, which come from National Academy of Sciences and many others, documenting that excess fluoride exposure poses dangers that range from discolored teeth to potential hormone disruption and neurotoxicity. The EWG also stated that "[o]ver-exposure to fluoride can be toxic, causing dental fluorosis (mottling and loss of tooth enamel) and skeletal fluorosis (joint pain, stiffness and bone fractures). Some studies point to a possible link between fluoride exposure and osteosarcoma (bone cancer), neurotoxicity and disruption of thyroid function."
