I definitely think if anyone (male or female) is about to harm you yeah you should spray them with a Raid sized can of liquid mace, smack them upside the head, kick them in the crotch, punch them in their eyeball, smash them with a baseball bat, stab them with a knife, attack them with a maul, or if all else fails and you got it, shoot them with a gun or at the very least, a crossbow.
Harm is harm and you got the right to make them go in one way or ta other.
If someone is about to beat you, you owe it to them to beat them first.

Some group of students at NC State invented a nail polish that detects date rape drugs and a lot of feminists are throwing a hissy over it for some reason

Cherry picking crazy feminists to attack is degrading for all involved.

This is a fairly mainstream belief among feminists, it wasn't the fringe attacking the nail polish people.

The MRA video's that are so popular at WP are not just about the issues they discuss (and misrepresent). They're part of an offensive to attack liberalism generally.
Feminists are, broadly speaking, part of a tradition of social justice activism which challenges elite interests. Both directly, and by questioning the social structures by which those elites maintain their power and control. It should come as no shock to see that right wingers (mainly libertarian) are opposed to this, nor that they should form organisations (MRA's etc) dedicated to taking feminism down and transmute it into something which serves their interests, while recruiting for the GOP.

It's a poorly titled video since the meme she's arguing against is 'self defense enables rape culture' rather than that it is rape culture.
With that out of the way, I do agree with her (rather than with the meme) that self defense enables women to defend themselves rather than enabling rape culture. That it doesn't work all the time doesn't make it a bad tool. If education and penalization worked all the time, crime wouldn't exist. Nothing works all the time. A combination of tools is best. Don't put all your eggs in one basket and all that.
Due to my age, I'm part of the demographic that promoted self defense classes geared specifically for women (i.e. that wouldn't be dependent on upper body strength). This idea is now mainstream norm as shown by the black belt Miss USA who set off this firestorm. I find it saddening that she got backlash (this video being part of the backlash against the backlash) since the implication was that women shouldn't learn self defense because it is only necessary because men rape and men shouldn't rape. Well of course they shouldn't! But as Dillogic says, they also shouldn't murder, steal etc. and yet that continues.
Arguing that people shouldn't have to defend themselves against crime because crime shouldn't exist just seems such a bizarre argument to me. And I'll bet none of the women making the argument leaves her purse sitting out on a bench on the grounds that people shouldn't steal. Crime happens. Self defense is one of the tools against it.
As someone who trains in "self defense" tactics regularly. There is a vast differnce between what people intend based on a scenario in their head, and what happens in live situations.
I always say there are no set scenarios. pretty much there are no scenarios. Meaning the are differences between every single assault, there there you have to be adaptive to deal with whatever happens.
There are no self defense course that you can do x lesson, they you will magically be able to apply that in a real situation. The reality is it take years of condition an practice, and even then there are no guarantees.
Chances are you won't have a can of mace to hand at he time. if you do have enough time. great. But also be aware that it might also be turned on you too.
The drive to continue to fight that takes conditioning and constant practice.
Sometimes running is the best option if possible.
No it's not and in my opinion everyone male and female should participate in some type of martial arts training from the time they are young into old age, as physical abilities allow, and of course if people are interested in doing it.
Even if a person never has to put the skills into action, there is a tremendous amount of evidence that the art of martial arts balances mind, body, patience, and aggression too. If the otherwise potential rapists were martial artists, who knows, they might not rape either, with a more balanced state of mind and body, per actually changing the illegal actions of the crime of rape.
Additionally, the art of martial arts for self defense and an art of movement in general promotes the potential for a human being that has much less fear. It is in our instinct as human beings to be able to successfully avoid and or defend against a predator whether it be human being or animal. To go against natural instinct is to invite suffering.
The folks in Eastern cultures that do it at their corporate job together, at work, per the TAI CHI way, are likely much more productive than the corporate sitters in the US. And yes, likely overall smarter too, as recent research shows that even one exercise session can boost IQ points 10%. Focus; it's as simple as that; exercise provides that and there is not much better of an exercise than martial arts and dance in general. Humans have been doing it this similar way before written history, as other so called non-civilized primates do it as nature's way, now.

The feminist ideology at it's core is a postmodernist binary that is a false dichotomy. It is logically unstable, but the binary makes in inarguable in context. If you argue against it, you are either an evil oppressor or an ignorant oppressed fool, and thus all claims are invincible to exterior reason. Those who are most radical follow the logical framework of feminism better, but those who aren't are those who are more sensible, more connected to reality, and therefore tend to only take what they consider to be the good points from the ideology and does away with the rest. First wave feminism did some pretty terrible things like the white feather campaign... and killing the dog of the first person to set up a shelter for those domestically abused. Each wave since has gotten worse. And those good points have mostly faded.

An offensive to attack liberalism generally? You make it sound like the Ardennes Offensive in the planning or something.....
And there is a difference between feminist and what are known as femi-nazis.
Id write more but I'm sure that you'll edit your post at least 3 more times even while I'm typing. That's 3 more in addition to the 27 edits you've already done to this post alone.
