Name- Gendania

Dry and mountanous in the south, more moist and hilly in the north. Located in the Pacific Ocean.
Population- 4 million.
History- unpopulated when Europeans arrived in 1750 when the country was claimed for Portugal, but evidence for a previous people with some civilization including some knowledge of basic metalwork exists. The race of the people appeared to be similar to native americans, however it appears they were wiped out by war and famine. By 1780, large scale settlement began to take place from several countries including England, Portugal, and a small amount of Spanish. The countries name is taken From Lord Byron Genda, the British Statesman who orchestrated the Peace agreement with Portugal in which one article gave Gendania to the British in 1835. Gendania acheived independence from Britain gradually until it officially declared absolute sovereignty in 1920.
Military- During World War 2, Gendania sided with the Allied Powers. The Japanese at one point controlled the capital city of El Strenta, but were soon driven out by Gendanian and American Forces. Currently, Gendania has a small military by international standards. Military service is not compulsory but recruitment is high. The militaries primary concern is with drug smugglers who use Gendania as a stop in their routes and often store opium in caches in the mountains. Therefor Naval forces are strongest in order to apprehend boats with drugs. The drugs fund some sepearatist groups, though these groups are small and lack sufficient power or ideological support to be considered seriously.
Economy- growing fast as a result of technological growth. Very open economy with little legal restriction. Government is essentially hands off but strictly limits monopolies. Most public goods are funded by the government but outsourced to contractors. Education is private but government funded.
GDP- $39,000 a person
Major Industries- Fishing, Tourism, Copper mining, Sheep.
Notes on culture- The language is a mixture of English and Portugese and has developed to the point that it is considered a unique language distinct from either, though speakers of either language can understand a bit. Gendanians are very western, but there is a large subpopulation of Japanese, who emigrated to the country to mine copper during the early 1900s. Gendanian's are socially conservative but the society is very open and informal. Family size is average of 3.8 children. Religion: Protestant--65%, Catholic--15%, Jewish--4%, Buddhist,--4% (due to Japanese population) other--12%. Racial groups--77% Caucasian. 10% East Asian. 5% West Asian. 5% African descent. 3% other. Gendanians value intellect highly and its 3 Universities are world renowned. The crime rate is low due to strict crime laws which are enforceable because the governments libertarian policies allow it to devote most of its resources to enforcing laws against harming others rather than on governemt beurocracy.
