It's not fair to judge how much people like or dislike you based off facebook likes, it's not even close.

jealousy, maybe? :P

i had around 250 FB friends when i used it up until a year ago. my statuses usually got around 2 or 3 likes, then again they were mostly incomprehensible short phrases about my daytime musings, or obscure quotes.

as has been said before, at 1 pm most people are at work or school. by the time they get back your status may have been buried by all sorts of other, possibly more interesting posts by other FB friends.

Is someone seriously asking this question?

I'm lucky if I get any likes or comments. I really couldn't care less though.
I have 76 "friends" on Facebook, and most of them don't even see what few things I post.

I guess it depends on who you are friends with, who your friends are friends with, how private your profile is, how many people you know in real life, ect...

You are "beyond insulted" that "only 5" people clicked a button on the internet in response to the groundbreaking news that you'll be going to NY? Are you expecting people to throw you a parade for that?

I'll never understand this weird popularity contest that is Facebook.

I'm lucky to get 1 like whenever I post an interesting status, or a witty or relatable status. I posted a photo of me and my new boyfriend, which I know that often gets likes and comments, but I only got 3 likes. And yet other people who post photos of themselves with their friends or partners get, like, more than 10 likes.

I have no-one to blame but myself though. A few months ago when I was severely depressed, I kept on putting how I feel on Facebook, which some people might call ''whining about self''. So I suppose a lot of people got fed up with me but were too polite to unfriend me, so unticked me off their ''see posts in news feed'' list. Now I just look unpopular.

you want likes? create a page whose title references some pop culture thing or character from a show/movie, and post tons of pictures saying "like for (good thing, often religious figure), keep scrolling for (bad thing).

or if you really want to be an ass, you can post pictures of people in clear distress or with rare medical conditions and ask for sympathy in the form of likes.
you are guaranteed to attract suckers.

That's because five people clicked a button. Or because a server estimated they might and clicked it for them. Probably a combination of both possibilities. Hate to say it, but he's right. It's like worrying about your post count or rep points on a forum; it's not really important. I tried out Facebook only once about five years ago and soon quit. When I think of Facebook, I see several million faces behind computers and phones, many of whom do not crave communication so much as attention, and are only giving it to others so they will get it back in return.

Jeez talk about insecure...
I don't normally get 10 likes and I don't analyse my likes that much.
It depends on a lot more factors than whatever is important to just you.
Maybe people don't care if you're going to New York. If you said you'd take cool pics for them if they requested any sights, or you might bring some lucky person a souvenir maybe more would like it because it felt slightly more inclusive.
But otherwise it's just all about you, and most people only care about themselves...

I can see why the OP is upset though, because if that was somebody else putting that they're going to New York (with no pictures or anything like that) I bet they would get likes and comments saying ''have a nice time!'' and stuff like that. I mean going to New York is quite a big experience, and if somebody put that they're going to New York on my news feed I would most definitely be interested and wishing them luck or at least liking their status.

I have 123 FB friends and definitely average less than 5 likes. And I'm perfectly fine with that. I neither go "liking" everything I see nor see everything, because even 123 people is way too much for FB to show me everything.

many facebook posts are unoriginal and rehashes, even if they may have been interesting at first they just die when rehashed over and over.
+1.
