Alright I know the post title sounds creepy, but I promise you this isn't all that bad. Let me explain. After getting super obsessed with pets - namely, tarantulas - and psychology, I've started to see the people around me as talking pets who are very smart (kinda). Everything people do or say is amusing to me, because I can analyse their behavior and pin down the psychology behind it. It doesn't matter whether they make fun of me or are nice to me; it's as if reality doesn't exist. maybe this is because my every interaction with people is contrived and manipulated to yield the results I want. It's so funny, now that I know humans are basically pets who I don't take care of. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them?

Aspies are the resident anthopologists on this planet ? by birth. Neurotypical society is under constant autistic scientific surveillance ;-)

'Pet' implies a being who is taken care of by another, superior being. Most adults you meet will not fall into that category, so maybe 'animal' is a better way to say what you're trying to say. In any event, do you not consider anyone your peer?

Like that zoologist who wrote book "Gorillas in the mist", she was living among that apes for a long and learned them from inside.

I probably shouldn't say this, but I'm still in school so I talk to people who don't take care of themselves. I consider the adults human, and the students pets.

Agreed. The ability to psychologically manipulate other people doesn't raise you above them. Manipulating others for your own amusement is pretty vile IMHO, and smacks of deceit. Unfortunately, I've known psych majors with similar attitudes. I could see through them like watching clockwork wheels churning ever so slowly.

Perry Farrell with Porno for Pyros summed the idea up quite well.

So, do you take care of yourself?

Thinking of people as just another type of animal is an established approach in evaluating and studying human behavior.

If all your experience with animals is captive or domestic ones, like pets or in zoos then I can see how you might make the association with pets. But people are not normally in that condition and its probably inaccurate to think of them that way.

The OP mentions amusement and manipulation in two separate sentences, and the meaning you imply may not be the intent.

It could well be that the amusement with "pets" is a coping mechanism for dealing with bullying.

Similarly manipulative interactions could simply be a defensive mechanism or an attempt to communicate successfully in a neurotypical context. However manipulative interaction could also indicate a psychopathic tendency, but that again is pure speculation.

With all due respect, I am no one's pet. They don't own me.

The title seems more designed to draw attention than creepy, but this bit does sound creepy:

That sounds very unhealthy to me. Creepy. And troubling in combination with the sense of unreality and the intrinsic power imbalance in the situation you describe. I think you should get counselling about the ethics of your situation and the emotions you are experiencing.

I deleted my original post for fear of being attacked, but I strongly feel if we don't call out abusive behavior like psychological manipulation we'll have more Elliot Rodgers to deal with. My main issue is the Autism community's desire to hide that some people on the spectrum can act like predators.

Even though Elliot wasn't diagnosed with Autism, we as a community should be concerned that it was likely he had it, and not dismiss behavior from others on the spectrum as a way of fighting bigotry. I think most of the discrimination we face is from the stance that those on the Autism spectrum should only be understood and never criticized. If we want acceptance it starts with respecting that other people have a right to tell us no.

This pet theory is interesting. I may apply it - actually I think I already do. It's been a long time since I met anyone I had any respect for. I view people as beasts to be managed to my benefit. Why not? The facade of civilization is thin - people are motivated by one thing - self gain. Once you understand this and play to it (like playing to someone's vanity,) you can make use of them.

It's not creepy to me because I recognize that psychological manipulation is what they are ALL doing, and you just happen to be very open and honest about describing it.

That thing about "predators" is B.S. because most NTs perform this same process, only cloaked in deceit. They either cannot admit to it because they're not conscious of it, or they refuse to admit to it or connect to their own true feelings due to life-long conditioning.

It is only natural that A.S. would engage in similar contrived behaviors, with the most significant differences being that they often aren't as good at it, or they are more honest about admitting to it.

I feel more comfortable with someone who will admit to me what they are doing than with a "normal" person who is conditioned to the point that deceit is their normal.

To me, what you are likely doing is pinning down the logic algorithms that people around you are using, so you see them much like computer programs. This is what we do with animals/pets so that we can understand their M.O. in the absence of being able to talk to them and ask them.

Talking to a normal person is equally as useless because you will not get the truth.
Few people will tell you that yeah I act or dress this way so that more people will like me, and not because it is the real me. NTs have to have a fabricated identity. Other animals do not.

Yes, but the reason this kind of statement is disturbing to so many NTs is that they are not conscious that they have been engaged in this their entire lives. They have been conditioned to think how they operate is 100% genuine and individually driven.

It is very difficult to respect people who are acting out an imaginary identity. The system intelligence of the hive mind reduces them to a herd of cattle or school of fish. What keeps them trapped there is their inability to consciously see themselves in this position. They really do not believe that they engage in psychological manipulations and use each other to the extent that they do.

Being outside of the hive mind allows you to see this, and you may reasonably conclude that you should manipulate and use them in the same way. The biggest difference being that you cannot cloak your efforts in as convincing a manner as they do.

I think it is wrong in principle to use those psychological manipulations. The alternative is to be extremely honest with people, and that comes across to them as unacceptably offensive.
They had rather you be a slime ball and lie to them.
