While not often enough acceptance does happen and when it does, it is amazing what it can do. Thank you Birdville, Texas for accepting Manny, his parents for not accepting the psychs dated view of Autism and most of all Congratulations Manny Dedmond

A girl with down syndrome was nominated and crowned homecoming queen at my high school freshman year. It was really sweet and she was beyond happy about it. Nice story.

I know you're just saying you're happy about this, but gaaad no! The last thing we need is to make WP into another popularity contest. I know there are forums that have buttons that allows liking and disliking posts - and I avoid them like the plague.

I really enjoy watching these types of stories. It gives me hope that society may be becoming more accepting. I may not have had the fondest memories of school but there is hope for the new generation, including my daughter. :)

Was she teased or bullied or anything because she could of been nominated as joke if that's the case. It's sad but in some schools special people do get nominated as pranks.
