Do you mistake people for the wrong gender?

I'm not sure if it's connected to autism, but there are times when I struggle with it. It can be worse for online unless I can check the person's gender in their profile (or stats under avatar if forums list it there). I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem?

This might happen to me if someone dresses androgynously.

Otherwise, I rarely mistake genders.

Once in a while I'll see someone whose gender I'm not sure about, but I don't think that's just an ASD thing.

If someone tries to intentionally hide their gender, I may guess wrong but I feel it is more of a human thing than a HFA thing.

You can't be expected to know someone's gender online except by what they say it is. Avatars and usernames and typed words on a screen don't tell what somebody's gender is (if their username has "girl" "boy" "man" or "woman" in it, that would probably match their gender, but even then there could be exceptions).

Some people are androgynous and for them I don't know whether they're male, female, or a different gender....maybe I don't know for people who aren't androgynous-looking also (except, I guess, to me) but I don't care if I know somebody's gender so I dont give it much thought and I've never seen it as a problem when I can't tell.

I usually know what gender someone is in real life

It can be hard to detect the gender just from the writing style, -and that is not an AS problem.

Only online. I don't think this is an autism thing.

I don't consider it of primary importance, so I do often have trouble with it and notice this at some point.
