From what I've listened to so far (some are video game soundtracks)

Lights - Little Machines
Lindsey Stirling - Shatter Me
Binding of Isaac Rebirth
Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII
Super Smash Bros. 3DS
Borderlands the Pre-Sequel

The new Assassin's Creed games should have great soundtracks as usual, same with Dragon Age Inquisition and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire / Omega Ruby.

My favourites so far include:

In The Lonely Hour, by Sam Smith
Hey Hey, by Mapei
Stay Gold, by First Aid Kit
Do It Again, by Röyksopp & Robyn
Turn Blue, by The Black Keyes
Soul Power, by Curtis Harding
New Eyes, by Clean Bandit
TRXYE, bye Troye Sivan

And I expect good things from the upcoming Foo Fighters album.

Superstition by The Birthday Massacre is by far the best album of 2014.

Quite a disappointing year after 2013, but that was always likely.

The best album by far was Against Me! - Transgender Dysphoria Blues

The rest of my top ten would be something like:

- Sun Kil Moon - Benji
- Andrew Jackson Jihad - Christmas Island
- Julian Casablancas And The Voidz - Tyranny
- Twin Forks - Twin Forks
- Temples - Sun Structures
- S. Carey - Range Of Light
- Karen O - Crush Songs
- Young Fathers - Dead
- Freddie Gibbs and Madlib - Pinata

I haven't listened to RTJII or Indigo Child, and we're still on tenderhooks waiting for projects from Kanye, Kendrick, Chance, and Frank Ocean, which, let's face it, are likely to be amongst the best of the year. I'm doubtful that the Foo Fighters can break their cold streak but maybe Josh Homme has booted some creativity into Dave Grohl.

my only fave I've been listening to is Tonight Alive's The Other Side. Highly recommended to anyone who think they may have just all about given up hope on pop-punk, they pack a powerful punch and it only makes it worth listening to over and over again. one of THE BEST ALTERNATIVE/PUNK POP ALBUMS of this year.

also Nine Inch Nails' Hesitation Marks. A more toned down and artsy feel from Trent Reznor. can't forget that. Another serious recommendation. ;)

I haven't really listened to any of this year's albums, but some of my faves of 2013 include:

Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks
Skinny Puppy - Weapon
Mindless Self Indulgence - How I Learned to Stop Giving a s**t and Love Mindless Self Indulgence

A collection of songs meant to go together, more often than not performed by a single band or artist. It's an old concept dating back to the days before digital downloads. When MP3s became common, albums started losing their relevance, as people could more easily "pick and choose" the songs they wanted to listen to. There are many artists who fill their albums with fluff and only do a few good songs, thus another reason why albums have lost a lot of their popularity. Myself, I tend to prefer listening to artists who make great albums rather than just great songs, and I find that the experience of listening to a great album can rival that of watching a film.

If you ever want to hear a great album, listen to Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, quite possibly one of the greatest albums ever made. The individual songs on it are good, but listened to as a whole, it's a breathtaking musical experience.

I still appreciate full albums...when I stream music I just put it on random playlists usually, though sometimes listen to full albums on youtube or I listen to the ones I have physical copies of.

^ I actually listen to full albums more often than not, mainly because I have a huge library containing all kinds of different music, and putting my whole library on shuffle leads to unexpected results. :P If I'm in a death metal mood, I don't want Kraftwerk to come on all of a sudden, as much as I enjoy Kraftwerk. Also, like I mentioned before, I find the best artists are the ones who do good albums, rather than just good songs.

To be honest I can't think of anything good really good and I didn't buy any new releases this year outside of one of Andy Cairns' acoustic albums and that was mostly a collection of acoustic versions of previously released tracks. looking forward to 2015!! !
