I´m helped by a mentor at the moment. I had completely lost overview. Just making plans with her for a few things per week is a tremendous help. I am decidedly slow. I know, what I have to do, but getting it done without letting myself get confused by racing thoughts/ideas/impulses is a job in itself.
Poor executive function, I suppose.

Yes! It works for a time, but suddenly things disappear, when you dump them. That´s when it is not systematic mess anymore.

I recall the British humorist, the late Quentin Crisp who bragged that he never cleaned his room said, "After the first two years it doesn't get any worse."

I live in a bungalow with my husband, and the place HAS TO be tidy. I can't stand any mess or anything out of place.

Yeah, if it weren't for my VPW (Very Patient Wife) our house would be one of those that has tunnels thru the papers and junk. Just this morning she straightened up some of the piles of books in our library.

Cheers, Dave

I'm not the type to be living in a pigsty, but I am an untidy person. Well, I'm more of a clutterer. Whatever activity I am doing, there is always a mess around me, no matter how hard I try not to make a mess with my stuff. I do clear it up though if I know I'm definitely going to be finished.

I do put stuff away, like if I've been shopping I always put everything away as soon as I get in (cold stuff in the fridge, frozen stuff in the freezer, other stuff in the cupboard, etc). And I cannot get up without making the bed. I practically make the bed as I'm getting out of it. I haven't had an unmade bed since I was about 13-14.

But if I do something like writing, all I need is a pen and my writing pad, but I suddenly find myself surrounded by other stuff, like a drink, my mobile phone, etc. And before long there's a mess around me, when I originally just needed a pen and a writing pad. OK now I will be moving in with my boyfriend next year, and he's already said that he doesn't like clutter. So I don't quite know what's going to happen there. With me, clutter seems to build up before I know it.

I have trash building up in my room.
I think I need a small black hole to get rid of it.

be sure to not let that black hole suck you into it as well. better off with a trash chute that leads into a black hole, safer that way ;)
