I saw a neat video on Boing Boing about making candy canes and I thought I might like to try to make my own at home. Any advice for a novice?

Well, pretty much, the only thing I know about making candy, is that you need a really good candy thermometer. I'd love to do it, as well. They have chocolate at "Michael's Crafts" (if you live in the U.S.), in the cake decorating department, I THINK, and you can get different colored chocolate, too----I've always wanted to make different colored candy flowers!!

I make toffee now and again - do be careful as a sugar burn is extremely painful - it sticks to your skin.

I haven't made candy canes before, I looked the method up and it seems quite time consuming, but repetitive, a thermometer would definitely be required. I like mint candy canes, I hang them on the Christmas tree as edible decorations.
