Last night I watched:

Horse Feathers [1932]
<=>"The Maddest Comics of the Screen!"
<=><=><=>With the four Marx Brothers.

Groucho's character becomes president of a college and the consensus is it needs a better football team. The results are pretty much what you would expect with the Marx Brothers (that's a good thing, by the way).

Oh, it has nothing to do with horses. The phrase "horse feathers" is slang for nonsense.

One musical number made me think of the current state of American politics:

My Week With Marilyn (2011)

Based on a memoir by Colin Clark, who had a brief encounter with Marilyn Monroe in the UK when working as an assistant to the director on 'The Prince and the Showgirl' in 1956. A film about the making of a film, but at least it's watchable, unlike many Art House movies which use this formula.

Here we meet fictional versions of Laurence Olivier, Vivien Leigh, Sybil Thorndyke, Arthur Miller and Marilyn herself, of course. There's also Marilyn's 'method acting' guru Paula Strasberg, who doesn't come out of this too well.

The best scenes in this for me were the visits of Marilyn and Colin to Windsor Castle and Eton College, and those involving Clark's neglected girlfriend Lucy, played by Emma Watson. Clark is played by Eddie Redmayne, whom I'd never heard of.

Last night we watched:

Miracle Mile [1988]
<=>"There are 70 minutes to the end of the world. Where can you hide?"

It was in LA in 1988. There was still a Cold War so the U.S. and U.S.S.R. had their nuclear arsenals aimed at each other and on hair triggers.

Harry met the perfect gal and she was interested in him! But unavoidable circumstances made Harry a few hours late for their first date. And while Harry was frantically trying to salvage that mess and reconnect with the gal...he accidentally learns WWIII is starting.

It's not a Science Fiction or War movie. It is a Romance movie but not a Comedy. And then there's WWIII.

A reasonably good movie that holds your interest while focusing on the personal dramas.

Last night we watched:

The Nines [2007]
<=>"Y9u never kn9w when y9ur number is up"

Strong cast!
>- Ryan Reynolds
>- Hope Davis
>- Melissa McCarthy
>- Elle Fanning

Not worth their time.

The movie is not horrible, perhaps more of a jumble. Somewhere deep down there was an interesting concept,  but I don't think they fulfilled its promise.

I don't recommend running for the exit...but I don't recommend the movie.

Unless you are in the movie/TV business. Maybe then it would mean something to you, though I'm not sure.

I watched this great movie for about the 4th time, a couple days ago.

I choose to add the two main scientist characters to my personal "Head Canon" list of coded autistic characters.

The Yes Men

A documentary released in the mid-2000s, this follows the hijinks of two men who crash conferences,
create websites that are false, and encourage students and activist groups to get detained.
