District 9 is one of my favorite films. I think it is spectacularly good.  A Science Fiction film so good it got four Oscar nominations—including Best Picture—good!

Because of a recent WP thread, yesterday I was thinking about how I had had opportunities that, these days, probably would not be available to someone with an Autism Spectrum diagnosis...which lead me to think about eugenics...which lead to me watching:

Gattaca [1997]
<=>"Only one criterion: genetic perfection"

It had been a very long time since I last watched it. I remembered very little—not even what an excellent film it is.

Everything was well done. The stars gave wonderful performances. I definitely recommend the film.

Though they were not stars in this film, it was interesting to see Tony Shalhoub and Ernest Borgnine give good performances that were not like how I'd expect to see them.

I Am Not Your Negro.

Heartfelt documentary based on an abortive book by late African American author, James Baldwin, regarding racism at the heart of American history, which far too many Americans are too fearful to face.

Last night we watched:

Shadow of the Thin Man [1941]
<=>"The first Thin Man picture in 2 years - And it's a honey!"

Another good film in The Thin Man film series.

Shutter Island
Not one of Scorsese's masterpieces but pretty good.

They/Them.

The staff of a sinister gay conversion camp is visited by a masked psycho killer (they deserve it). Not a bad Blumhouse horror production, starring Kevin Bacon as the a$$hole running the camp.

Last night my ADHD bride was out-and-about and I was feeling rather glum so I wanted to watch something that was the visual equivalent of "comfort food" for me...so I watched:

The Crawling Eye [1958] Original title: The Trollenberg Terror
<=>"It's looking for you!"

I enjoyed it. It was comforting.

Not an exceptional movie, but they did create a pretty good alien monster for that time. Also, the movie had a certain Lovecraftian element to it.
