Do Revenge.

It's about two school girls, Drea and Eleanor. Each was humiliated by another person, and when the girls meet up, they decide to take revenge on the other person. To make it easier, they swap revenge plans, so Drea is taking revenge on Eleanor's tormentor, and vice versa. But things turn out to be much, much more complicated than that...

This film was darker and more pretentious than I expected but still worth watching. And a stand out performance by Maya Thurman Hawke, who looks extremely like her mother.

Last night we watched:

The Girl with All the Gifts [2016]
<=>"Our greatest threat is our only hope."

This is set in an uncomfortable, unpleasant dystopian future. Watching feels uncomfortable, sometime unpleasant, and eerie. And the wonderful understated score by Cristobal Tapia de Veer makes it much "worse".

All of the acting was excellent. The filming locations were perfect for their purpose.

I recommend it if you can stand a horror/thriller.

P.S. Most amusing lines:
<=>Helen Justineau: [Melanie stares at a cat poster] Do you want a cat?
<=>Melanie: [as blood still drips from her face] I already had one.

Though the following are more characteristic for the film:
<=>Melanie: Pretend to be scared of me.
<=>Sgt. Eddie Parks: [incredulously] Pretend?

It is a good movie, isn't it? I think the music, especially, did a stunningly wonderful job of setting the tone.

Last night we watched:

Jexi [2019]
<=>"She had him at 'hello'"

Fun comedy. Some conceptual similarities with her [2013] but more for comedy.

Recommended. A fun comedy commentary on the modern addiction to cellphones.

Something New

Kenya, a fastidious accountant, finds love in the most unexpected place when she agrees to go on a blind date with Brian, a free-spirited landscaper. But she is black and he is white, which causes problems with their narrowminded families.

This film was better than I thought it would be due to the above-average talent of the actors. If they hadn't been so talented, the film wouldn't have had as much impact in showing the racist attitudes still seen in the 21st century. I think the film have been better if it didn't have so many montage scenes, but it was meant to be a romcom so I suppose they didn't want to get too heavy.

4/5 stars.

Last night we watched two movies:

The Thin Man [1934]
<=>"A laugh tops every thrilling moment!"

One of our local stations has been rebroadcasting the film repeatedly this month but I'd only seen fragments of it. But those fragments convinced me that we should watch the entire movie. Good choice! The movie is excellent! I am now convinced I should get the rest of the film series.

Note, however, it came out the year after Prohibition in the United States ended and apparently before there was much concern about over-consumption of alcohol. So there is a lot of consumption of alcohol.

The Littlest Hobo [1958]
<=>"A hero with REAL HAIR on his chest...and a doll who's a L'IL LAMB!"

When we previously watched The Beast with a Million Eyes I noted to my bride that it was the first appearance of London—the dog who later went on to be the Littlest Hobo. She'd never heard of him! I noted that after Lassie and Rin Tin Tin the Littlest Hobo was perhaps the biggest name dog actor/character. But she'd not heard of him. Sigh. I wanted to correct that gap in her education so I got this 1958 movie whichstarsLondon as the Littlest Hobo.

For anyone else unfamiliar with The Littlest Hobo he was a dog who was a hobo. He was thestarin this movie and in two TV series, plus other film and TV appearances. And, unlike Lassie and Rin Tin Tin, he wasthe star...there were no recurring human costars. This was his movie and those two series were his. The littlest Hobo is a dog who wanders from town to town and does good deeds as he goes. In this movie his biggest good deed—though not his only good deed—was rescuing a lamb from the slaughterhouse.

A gap in my bride's education has been filled, she enjoyed the film, and was cheering for both the dog and the lamb. (Oh, this was the lamb's only acting appearance.)

Last night we watched two movies:

The Comedy of Terrors [1963]
<=>"Your favorite creeps...together again!"

I got this one so we could see another performance by Orangey the cat who, in this movie, used his stage name "Rhubarb".

If you watch the trailer above you'll see that this movie had a distinguished cast and that Orangey got very good billing. If you watch the movie I suspect you'd agree that most of the cast (understandably) did not seem to take it too seriously...but it is a fun, shallow horror comedy.

Love and Monsters [2020]

Fun post-apocalyptic hide-from-the-monsters action adventure. Well done...it even got an Oscar nomination.

Recommended.

P.S. Oh, and there is a dog and he did good. That is a sheer coincidence...I did not choose this film to stay on the London and Orangey theme.

Kajillionaire

It could've been a great film. One or two good moments. Wouldn't recommend.
