Dempsey and Makepeace (1984)

This is the feature-length pilot episode for the series of the same name, which was shown on UK television in the mid-1980s. British police series were largely very impressive, both before and after this (eg The Sweeney, Z Cars, The Bill, etc, but for some reason they decided here to follow the American formula of shows like 'Starsky and Hutch'.

Michael Brandon plays Lieutenant Dempsey, a New York cop on secondment to the Metropolitan Police. He is teamed up with Sergeant Harriet Makepeace, an upper-crust deb type played by Glynis Barber. The show isn't that bad, but it's nowhere near up to the standards of the other ones I mentioned. Part of the interest comes from the requirement for Dempsey to adapt to British policing methods, but he always seems to be more in his element when he gets the opportunity to shoot people.

Last night I watched:

Elysium [2013]
<=>"Rebel Against"

Excellent science fiction. I think it is downplayed because it doesn't feel "grand" like some of the spectacular "big" films, but it is very, very, very good!

It is definitely:=>RECOMMENDED<=

Last night I watched:

Crash of Moons [1954] sort of

This "movie" is the result of three episodes of Rocky Jones, Space Ranger [1954] being spliced together.

It's hard to know what to say about this "movie'. I think any high school class that created it would be proud of it. However, it obviously is not a high school project...most of the actors are too old for high school.

My recommendation is \_/AVOID THIS MOVIE!\_/

The Devil is a Woman (1935)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0026276

I don't recommend it at all. Marlene Dietrich did look stunning in her outfits. This was a low-quality ripoff of Carmen. Carmen has made for a number of very sexy movies and operas. But, being just after the Hayes Code became enforced, no sexiness was allowed in movies at all. Imagine a sexy woman, a sexy back-story, but no sexiness at all. Ugh!

This movie will IMO, be so confusing to the point where the adjective "confusing" would be an understatement.

It's a great movie that's free to watch on You-Tube and has a runtime of under 90 minutes.
