My favourite was from a young punk rocker student at the end of a course I taught:

"You know, for an old person, you are really cool".

It was 10 years ago and still makes me smile inside.

Over the years, I've been told a lot of positive things, like I have a big heart, I am so upbeat and cheerful....... those kinds of things. It makes me feel happy inside.

My boss told me she values my opinion because I'm direct and have a unique perspective about things. :)

Any kind actions. They do mean more than words.

A little kid with Down's syndrome once asked me if I was a doll (I had light blue/lilac hair).

I know it made sad pandas. I just lel'ed because I know it was me who said it, and I was laughing at how much of a trainwreck I was back then. That and I thought you were being light hearted about it just then, for which I'm glad; if we're able to joke about the past, it means the bridge is well and truly rebuilt.

Sadly, I'm a "monster" whore. Lots of nicks there.

But yeah, good times. :P

(Only sad panda for myself and realizing what I am; I've almost always deserved being called a monster.)

I've been called compassionate and resilient.

I don't really see myself that way, but those compliments made me happy :)

"You really impressed me"
(my mother when I had taken care of her when she was sick; my father OTOH didn't impress her at all; her exact words about him was that she was disappointed)

"You have sound judgement"
a friend

"I have always thought of you as wise"
my aunt

"You have an incredible word treasure"
my doctor, after reading my letter where I explained why I suspected I was aspie

"Everyone could see how much he meant to you"
a neighbor I thought well of said this to me about the dog I had just lost

I've received a lot of compliments regarding my extreme level of loyalty to others, but the best compliment I've ever received was for a performance I did at my local theater. It was back in 2011 when I was part of a Halloween musical where I played a vampire nerd. At the end of the show, I got to break out in Michael Jackson's Thriller. Afterwards, an elderly man in the audience came up to me and said "Michael Jackson still lives in you." I was beyond flattered. Never before had I received a compliment to that level and it's just always stuck with me.

Two things come to mind.
Bit of background information first: My father and I have practiced martial arts for nearly 15 years now (I started as a child). For years I've done a part-time job in the summer as a swim instructor (to give back to the community) and part of staying certified involves regular physical practice with the other employees..

One time I was sparring with my father with light contact. I accidentally landed a hit on his head and started to apologize but he insisted we keep going. Later we talked about it.
Dad: "I'm ok. But you remember we're not supposed to punch to the head when we spar like that"
Me: "Dad? I kicked you"
Dad: "...Aw man! You're getting faster. That's not good for me"

When you practice rescue skills in a group you take turns playing the victim. Many "victims" have a hard time resisting the urge to help or make things easier. My man running the exercises noticed that I was able to resist those urges.
Trainer: "Girls, I want you to go practice with (Me). He's the best 'victim' here"
After the girls in question struggled, but succeeded.
Girls: "What the heck? How was he so much harder?"
Trainer: "He didn't help you out at all, just like a real victim. He makes a very convincing dead person"
