As if it's not clear that this is being done because this age group is the one the vote least (if they remain in government for 100 years all money will go to pensioners, why not). It's like they're asking, "hey, do you hate teenagers? Vote for us then!" - people are in a sadistic mood too.

This is in contrast to Labour which is suggesting actually paying them for work. Hm, what could possibly go wrong?

Yes our conservatives here in Australia introduced a similar scheme titled "Work for the Dole" where welfare payments for long term unemployed were subject to completion of pointless community work programs.

Conservative neo-liberal governments stand for policies that basically reduce welfare so as to free up tax breaks for the wealthy (shock horror!!). Neo-liberal economic trickle down theory purports that if big business pays less tax then they will invest more money in the economy. This is true in that they invest more...in foreign third world economies, offshore ventures and outsourcing jobs to countries without the minimum wage which (ironically) makes unemployment worse here in Australia.

The long term unemployed need "relevant" skills to help them find work. Rather than forcing them to join jailed convicts in a chain gang breaking rubble in some rock quarry.

Probably pimping out vulnerable youngsters to bullies like agency work in the 1980s did as well.

This is the singular thing that compels me to vote... because if they get a majority I'm almost sure this country will become fascistic. Some days ago they threatened to starve obese people and alcoholics too, if they "do not accept help". At this point I think it's being acknowledged that the problem is that there is no help available for anyone at all, not that people refuse (mental health services are down the drain etc.)
