Work and Allowances for Disability
At my office building, my boss has asked me for evidence of a diagnosis. I received a few prognosis from multiple psychiatrists, including a specialist who was on the spectrum himself. However, I am currently trying to convince my GP that I want a diagnosis (he is more interested in some decidedly minor physical defects).
So, I asked why my employer needed to know, and he explained that he has a few other employees with diabetes and asthma, and he makes allowances for them to have extended breaks and access to medical devices. It seems he wants an official diagnosis so he can make similar allowances for me.
My question is, what are acceptable allowances to ask for? I would like to ask for the ability to choose when to come in to work depending on whether or not I can control myself completely that day, but I doubt that would be correct.
Thoughts?

If your sensory issues are bad, you might request allowances such as noise-canceling headphones, or no fluorescent lights overhead or a corner workspace with the fewest amount of people around you.
I think someone in here said something about everyone on their team being expected to do sales of some sort, but, they were excused from that.
Most employers would probably not want too much variation or last minute notice of not being at work when expected (because that can impact your coworkers)... but, maybe you could request the ability to work from home for part of the day if you're feeling less controlled? Not sure how feasible that would be, just an idea.
I'd be interested to hear what accommodations others have...
