Disney makes twice as much money from their theme parks than what they make from their actual movies.

I’m much more tolerant of the presence of my sibling if I’m a little buzzed.

Those green wrinkly things that fall from trees, which my family has always called "brains" due to the pattern of the wrinkles, are actually Osage oranges. Also, an Osage orange tree does not look like I thought it did.

It was once not uncommon for well-to-do people to have mourning portraits in their home, which were paintings of family members who had died laying on their deathbed or in a coffin. It might look pretty morbid now, but back then this was a way of remembering honoring the memories of the deceased. Some of the portraits were of children and infants. Those were the bad ol' days. Lots of people dying young. :skull:

When wolves howl together, they harmonize rather than sing on one note to give the illusion of greater numbers.

Papua New Guinea has 832 living languages, making it the most linguistically diverse place on earth.

In all ten regions of Cameroon, there's this thing called breast ironing, where young girls and women get their breasts mutilated to make them smaller or non-existent, usually by the mother. It's because the males believe that once a girl develops breasts she is ready to have sex. Therefore, very painfully destroying the breasts is supposed to protect the girl from ruining her family name by getting harassed, raped, and/or pregnant too soon, which would also ruin her chances of getting an education.

That's it, then. Women will always be treated like some some inferior and offensive object whose very body is something to be deeply ashamed of, no matter what. :x

That's not only intensely disturbing, but shows just how far we have progressed as a society overall when persons continue practices/rituals which see female sexuality as something bad or negative.

In Kentucky, it's illegal to paint your lawn red.

I've learned that if your not voting in every single damned election that, you can wind up being considered inactive. How absurd

I learned that a certain species of sea cucumber has been labelled as a "new discovery" simply because the Media has never reported on it before.

In Australia you usually get fined for it.

...

Also, I learned about how "machine learning" works. Fascinating stuff:

That's insane! How much would a person get fined for not voting?
