Lara Croft from Tomb Raider was originally going to be called Laura, but the British designers of the game thought Americans were stupid and would not pronounce the name Laura properly, so they changed it to Lara.

Many Americans mispronounce Lara's name as Laura, however, so maybe...

This is funny, sadly this is true, cuz my name is Lara & people can call me Laura, it sounds like they are too lazy to say my name right. So I been a Laura for decades 8O

In Old Norse, "Viking" denoted not a nationality, but occupation:
a Viking was anyone who took part in an overseas expedition.

This was yesterday, but I learned that the phrase "stir crazy" was originally used to describe people in prison, and that "stir" was once a name for prison.

All these years when I've said or heard the phrase stir crazy, I had thought the stir part meant to move around in a restless or anxious fashion, kind of like the Night Before Christmas poem that goes "Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse". :)

I always thought it meant that, too!

When electricity was installed in the White House, President Benjamin Harrison and his wife, Caroline, were scared to use the light switches for fear of getting shocked.

Kellog's Corn Pops cereal in the States is very different than the Corn Pops cereal made in Canada, even though they're both the same brand made by the same company. In Canada the cereal is sphere-shaped that are uniform in shape and is basically a sweetened version of Kix (Which I've also eaten). Corn Pops in the US is sweetened puffed grains that come in irregular shapes. The States version looks better to me for some reason. It looks lighter and fluffier, like popcorn.
