Gibson explodes in rage at college campus
Director reportedly screams, swears at professor, Mayans

Mel Gibson, please report to the principal’s office.

Gibson reportedly exploded in rage on Thursday night during a presentation on the campus of Cal State University at Northridge where students and members of the Mayan community came to listen to the actor-director talk about his film “Apocalypto.”

According to a report, Alicia Estrada, an Assistant Professor of Central American Studies at the school, began to question Mel’s portrayal of Mayan culture in the film, accusing him of racial stereotyping.

When Estrada insisted Gibson’s depiction of Mayans as a bloodthirsty society that performed sacrificial ceremonies was both incorrect and racist, Gibson reportedly erupted, yelling “Lady, f**k off.”

Additionally, as members of the Mayan community in the audience began to protest the way they were portrayed in the film, Mel allegedly screamed, “Make your own movie!” as they were being escorted out of the room.

Mel’s publicist, Alan Nierob, released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“The woman was a heckler, who was rude and disrupted the event in as much the event organizers had to escort her out.”

Why is he `still a bigot`?
Hes right if you don`t like his movies go make your own.
Everyone knows the Mayans practised ritual human sacrifice (we did too)
What these Politically Correct self deluded busybodies wanted was another load of twaddle like Dances With Wolves.

'Still' a bigot because of his rant about Jews when he was pulled over for a DUI... America's Funnies Dashcam Video.

Anyway, I imagine he'll be checking in to rehab shortly, since that seems the fashionable thing to do after faux pas's such as these.

Mel clearly has issues, then again the fact that he is discussing the history of the Mayans with children is not necessary a bad thing. He does need to deal with his anger, and cannot be cursing out teachers in front of their children.

The classical (not their modern decedents) Mayans, however, like the Aztecs (on that likely not as much as the Aztecs) were an extremely savage society. I'm not saying the movie didn't take liberties, like all movies do (I didn't see it, although I want to). Gladiator took a ton of liberties with the history of the Roman Empire. But there is nothing wrong with being honest about the reality of the past. The Mayans, Aztecs, Incas, ect... weren't EVIL or anything. They were actually extremely advanced for the isolated position they were in. Everything must be placed in context. But we need be honest about these things and but cover over them in some attempt to be tolerant or a sense of moral equivalence.

I'm not some basher of American Indians or natives in general. The Spanish and other who conquered across the Americas were more often the not incredibly cruel. This is not to say there weren't native tribes/nations conquering other tribes for centuries past (although it should be noted there were more peaceful groups, although they tended to be railroaded by the more aggressive groups before the conquests). After settlement, the brutal treatment of the American Indians continued, and I will am not going to defend that (this is really where the more peaceful tribes got shafted).

There is allot of history here, and obviously am not an expert.

Since I haven't seen the movie, I don't know what exactly the lady was talking about. It wouldn't surprise me if he mischaracterized Mayans like he mischaracterized the Jews in Passion of the Christ. In light of his rant about Jews, I would say that his characterization of Jews in that movie was influenced by his hatred of Jews. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he disliked Mexicans as well.

BTW, I was under the impression that he was talking to college students, not little kids.

I don't see his use of the f-bomb as the main problem.

The lack of respect that he showed to this college that was hosting the event is much worse.

That's nice, so is half the planet.
It really makes me laugh the way such a fuss is made when celebrities do things that half the normal people do anyway.

Anyway, most movies made are not non fictional documentries, they are a fictional story maybe based on a small bit of truth for peoples interest. That lady should "f*ck off" and make her own movie.
