As with many conspiracy theories, this nonsense about "Operation Jade Helm" serves only to obscure a much more terrifying reality. The worry is that there will be a military takeover in the Southwest US. But why should that concern us? Who is "in power" now? Are they acting in our best interest?

All this time spent hand wringing over fantasy stories would be better spent analyzing existing power structures. Because they'll still be around after this all blows over.

These conspiracy theories are generally spread by undercover FBI/CIA agents, "disinformation agents" such as Alex Jones and George Noory. The objective is to sow what's dubbed FUD, meaning Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt, among people who have lots of guns that could be used to topple the govt, and get such people to fight strawmen and shadows instead of the true threats to human freedom.

A secondary objective is to get people with radical views to do things that will get them arrested and sent to prison. It is well known that the FBI regularly uses disinfo agents among America's Muslims to snare as many Muslims as possible in fake jihad attempts so as to burnish GWOT stats. But also there are ongoing efforts to snare such people as militia members and survivalists in FBI-invented schemes to overthrow the govt so as to make the FBI look good to Congress.

It's so effective that as a revolutionary myself I find it rather embarrassing, straight out of Orwellianism 101. Big Brother runs a fake underground in order to catch wouldbe enemies of the state. The marks fall for it, every single freakin time. You'd think people would be smarter about it. A baby knows that a stove is hot once he gets burned, but grown men seem not to know that their newfound "friend" is an FBI plant.

This stuff is not secret, it's available to anybody with three brain cells and access to Google. This sort of thing is why DA'ASH (Islamic State) is falling back on lone wolf attacks, they can't organize in the US without getting The Man on them, so they use online propaganda to goad lone wolves, like the Earth Liberation Front does.

I think that the more specific something gets, and once names are named, it does start to stench of disinfo. Anything that is "planned" like this also stinks of disinfo. Secret events or events that are being lied about in official sources and the media can only be examined after the matter - so that conspiracy theorists have the official narrative, and can look for holes in it, to form their own alternate hypothesis. Something like the name or blueprints of a future military operation are not supposed to be available to the public, and especially if the public is the enemy - the plans would then have to be canceled or significantly revised if that enemy had advance knowledge, the cover has been blown.

Legitimate claims about conspiracy and secrecy are not such specific accusations, but rather, questions that the population has for the government that are not sufficiently answered. A good example of this would be UFOs - thousands of ordinary people have seen aircraft that absolutely can not be explained away, especially near Air Force bases, but the various government agencies can not give a straight answer to this. That is one type of conspiracy - evidence stacking up towards a hypothesis and the only competing hypothesis to compare it to is secrecy - "UFOs do not propose a threat to national security so we will not comment on them" - so that a legitimate discussion is averted.
