Hi, I know this is very specific, but basically one of the ways I cope with stuff when I'm upset, stressed or anxious is through biting down quite hard on things. I've been looking for appropriate fidgets/toys and stuff but most of them seem to be aimed at teething toddlers and children, and are only suitable for soft to moderate chewing. They also tend to look quite silly and childish... I was wondering if anyone knows of some adult-oriented toys for this specific issue?

Thanks for any replies

Well what if you found things that could be used as 'chew toys' but aren't marketed as such?..I have not really heard of adult oriented chew toys but I imagine there are things that could be used. A solid stick that wont make splinters, maybe a good strip of leather or like leather strands braided together might work. Of course it may look odd to be sitting there chewing something but if it helps...they can deal with it. Hell much of the time even neurotypicals can be caught chewing their pencil or pen for instance.

But yeah you may have to be a little creative to find something effective, toys meant for teething babies likely would be too delicate for adult teeth.

Ok, this is probably really bad advice, but I break off a hard wooden skewer or the round type toothpick to about an inch long and clamp/chew it, twirl it around, suck it in and out etc. I keep the same piece in there constantly for up to three weeks, until it starts to get a rough feel to it. Then I get rid of it and break off a new piece. When I'm not playing with it, I either keep it clamped between my molars or park it up between my top gum and cheek.
Having said that, I have swallowed a few over the years. Be sure to take it out before you brush your teeth.

http://www.stimtastic.co/ is where I look for chewable stuff - I've not put in an order, but they have stuff that looks nice to me, and they explain what level of chewing stuff should get! The reason I've not ordered anything from them is because I feel like when I do I'll spend too much money.

I was about to make a smart assed post with a picture of a ball gag.. but then I went to google image search and typed adult chew toys. The results were for babies & dogs.. but then I saw a pencil topper chew and clicked it, and the heading for the group of pics was "Autism chewies & mouth toys" so I clicked the source page and there are pages and pages of them.. mostly geared towards children, but you might find something suitable here: https://funandfunction.com/calm-and-focus/chewies.html

Alternatively, make one yourself out of a material you like to chew on.

Maybe a large, clean, white rubber eraser? Or one of those wooden spoons used for mixing baked goods; they're quite durable and, I think, wouldn't splinter.
