Should the coiled-snake Gadsden Flag ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gadsden_flag ) be banned entirely because it was most recently used by Republican Tea Party supporters? And, if so, should statues of Benjamin Franklin be banned, too, because of his original segmented-snake "Join, or Die" editorial cartoon is believed to have influenced the Gadsden image?

WOW!

You're saying that joining the GOP Tea Party movement was as bad as joining a lynch mob!

Sarah Palin thanks you for the compliment!

You're implying that "we cant ban flag A just because it's associated with something bad, because we would then also have to ban flag B because it is also associated with something equally abominable". Therefore we can't ban the Confederate Flag just because its associated with (or its "most recent use" as you put it) was by defenders of Segregation (the KKK and the recent spree killer), because then we would also have to ban the "Dont Tread on Me" flag because it was used by folks just as odious: the GOP Tea Party. You're clearly implying that the Tea Party is as bad as the KKK, and as bad as the spree killer. Obviously you hate the Tea Party even more than Obama does!

But which thing was your intent?
To defend the display of the Confederate flag?
Or to slander the Tea Party?

As a postscript: the original uses of the two snake flags was to show defiance by Americans against a foreign ruler. The original use of the Confederate Battle Flag was to represent combat in the name of sedition against THIS country. So even if you go by the original uses of the flags (and not the most recent revived uses that your talking about) they are hardly analogous.

I don't believe in the Tea Party--but they don't do extralegal things.

I don't see it making sense to ban their flag. They don't advocate seceding from the United States.

The Tea Party was originally a Libertarian-related group before the Republic National Committee made its moves on it.

I do like the saying on the Gadsden flag "Dont Tread on Me". Sadly the idea seems to be lost on many of our politicians here in the U.S. .
