I have no idea if Bill Gates has AS or not, but I will say that if you are passionate about something, that can overcome a lot of hurdles in the social side of things...(becomes a problem though if work is all you talk about at "out of work" gatherings!).

I'm doing OK in my software engineering position. However, my manager has told me that I will not be able to progress further in the company without learning leadership skills and the ability to not be intimidated by people, understanding nonverbal social cues, and stuff like that. When I told him I may have a neurological issue blocking me and that I might need some special treatment (I'm not "out"), he said that I don't LOOK like I have an obvious problem so they won't treat me differently.

In short, having AS may lead to a glass ceiling for me.

Consulting is always an option.

Option for what?
If you mean a career, so you can get rich... FYI, consultants usually graduate from prestigious (ie: ivy league) universities, and you need to have pretty good interpersonal skills and relationships with clients.

I don't know if this is an issue for anybody else or it's just me, but I think it's kind of related to my AS.

I am allergic to responsiblity. Taking on responsibilities makes be nervous, and I would rather just do work where I have less responsibities, not more. So that kind of limits me in my "career" and "success" options.

And that's on top of my non-existant social skills.

I think contracting / consulting is a good idea especially if you are looking for software engineering jobs. They make good money over here, I've used them in business and usually the "dealing with people" thing is not so much of an issue because you are engaged to do a project, not socialise endlessly.

I hope I can get a good job.....See I love snakes and reptiles but I just think they are really costly, also is there a place i can post about what happened when some NT nob-heads decided that I can't own reptiles cause i'm AS and cause they say that because of how animals have acted around them that thats how they allways act, which pisses me off cause I know its not true
