Salute to higher ranking officer?

I heard that on the battlefield many officers prohibits younger soldiers saluting to the officers because that would indicate the enemy NCOs and officers to kill.

Does is true

Yes.
Saluting a superior or doing anything that visibly shows obvious deference to them in a hostile area indicates to any enemy sniper team in the area that the person is a leader and a priority target to be engaged. It's best that officers and NCO's blend in as much as possible in the eyes of a distant observer. It's also important that subordinates by chain of command should be trained and able to take over in the event that said leader is taken out of action.
To leave a unit leaderless and/or disorganized opens a window favorable for attack.
