I think it is a bit silly that the Confederate battle flag is essentially getting blamed for the tragedy that happened in Charleston, there are a lot of legitimate issues we can talk about but somehow we get stuck on some irrelevant piece of fabric. Time to take it down from the statehouse, people must not of wanted it displayed any more or else I doubt there would of been such a decisive vote.

Oh no the bane of human existance, we're all doomed because a government building has decided to get rid of an irrelevant flag that represents a 'country' more or less that doesn't exist anymore via the civil war preventing the sucessful succeeding of the confederate states' who thus remained part of the United States of America after some fighting.

Well boo hoo.

South Carolina simply exchanged one flag at its state capitol building for tens of thousands of flags throughout its state.

In politics we warn to "be careful what you wish for." South Carolina got what it wanted, so now it is going to get what it dared not expect. Oh, brother.

And we switched it around to read: "Discretion is the better part of valor."

There are people who are offended by the Confederate flag for good reason. I could understand the Southerner viewpoint on it, though.

The "Start & Bars" seems to correlate strongly with:

• Autism Spectrum Disorders!
• Cats and dogs living together!
• Criminal activity!
• Drought!
• Famine!
• Global warming!
• Illiteracy!
• Infertility in livestock!
• Panic in the streets!
• Pestilence!

It's enough to ruin your whole day!

You know your Shakespeare (De Vere)! Hehe.

I amn't supporting either side in this debate. But, if removing the flag from society is the larger goal, I would hope to see it whither on the vine (smaller and smaller flags at the capitol over time) without notice. Ignoring something into nonexistence is the best way to obliterate it. But, doing it as a cause celebre only makes some people double down. On the other hand, I do like collecting banned things. Maybe I should go buy one of those tiny little versions people used to wave at airports.

Indeed! It's "...human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!"

The "Stars & Bars" also correlates with:

• Alcoholism
• Alien abductions
• Conspiracy theories
• Dental and orthodontic disorders
• Ignorance and illiteracy
• Inbreeding and incest
• NASCAR
• Xenophobia

It's about time this scourge of decency was removed from public view!

Yeah, extremism doesn't see itself as extreme, whether Nazis, Commies, Jihadis, warmongers or progressives.

All for the greater good and all that.

If some rednecks want to fly the flag on their own property, then that's their constitutional right. But it's inappropriate for that flag to be displayed over public (government) property.

Obviously it'd be nice if American citizens wouldn't show solidarity for a racist killer. But it's even worse when the government does it.

It's good that they finally did what they should have done 150 years ago. But why am I not surprised that most of the people in this thread are disagreeing with this? :?

Considering the entire situation, what with the state senator being gunned down by a guy who waved the same flag in various photographs, it's an appropriate reaction from the state. People forget a man who worked in that state house was the victim of a hate crime. It would be callous and cruel to continuously fly the flag after the events that have unfolded as of late.

The politicians made the right decision and chose to go with what honors their dearly departed friend.

The South Carolina House approves a bill to remove the Confederate flag, which is a part of American history, while allowing homosexuals to hijack the rainbow, which is a creation of God; what a degenerate, sick society we live in today.

Here is something for all of you to ponder: If The Charleston shooter had been waving the hijacked rainbow flag, Barack Obama would say, "Don't judge the group by the actions of one.".
