I've been waiting for an appointment with a psychologist regarding an Asperger diagnoses. I was wondering how long some people had to wait before they were seen assessed?

The first one I contacted had a 6 month wait period. I got impatient and found a university in a nearby city that did diagnoses within a month and a half. However, it took another month and a half to get the results and the test was very poorly administered. In the end, I ended up going back to the first one for therapy anyways (she couldn't do a diagnosis since I had already taken the test elsewhere). I should have just been patient and waited.

I think it was about 10 months from referal till seeing a specialist and then it was a long time getting diagnosed.

Approx. I think it varies from county to county.

Oh ok, that's slightly better at least. 9 months from doctor referral or 9 months from referral to psychology? Sorry for being so specific, I'm an impatient piece of s**t. :P

LOL. Asking for more time stuff. :)

GP got bored with me asking for help and drugs so referred me to shrink. Wait for shrink must've been about 6 months. He almost immediately said "aspie" and refered me to diagnostic psychology. Another 9 month wait.

I don't know what happens if you nag GP for aspie dx.

Why does it takes so long to be diagnosed?

There is a long waiting list to see a professional. Also if you end up having the same type of assessment as me that will take some time.

I got mine very quickly, maybe a week or two. Anyone in California with insurance has a right to get diagnosed and treated...

After I made the initial call, I waited about eight weeks for my intake appointment, and the complete diagnosis, including receiving my report, took another nine.
