Yet I enjoy gathers for some reason.

Anyone else like this?

I love social gatherings since I am a rare extrovert in a lot of ways. What I do hate is when I go somewhere and all they want to do gather in places that are so loud that you can't think.

I like certain low-key social functions where there are people I know and like to talk to and can have a conversation or two.

These are mostly family and church gatherings.

I really don't like social gatherings at all.

Maybe if we just around and watched TV.

Or just hang out amongst friends with take-out food or something.

I call this a social gathering! (Hanging out and watching TV would be also, just one I would like less.)

If I am with more than one friend (or set of friends like a married couple) or family member (or set of family members like my immediate family) at a time, it is a "social gathering" and not a private get-together.

I think of a "social gathering" as an occasion where one has to make full use of one's "social skills."

I see what you mean, though.

Love/hate issue for me as well.

I go to social gatherings because I need to stay in practice, and sometimes I actually can enjoy myself a little.

However, they are stressful and draining...especially if they don't go well.

Its tricky. I cry and cry because I have no friends, but then I go to a party with new people and I feel uncomfortable and just want to leave, but those feelings of loneliness are still there. I love the idea of it, but I am bad at it. I just want to blend smoothly in with people.
