Why does everyone like to define me by my age?

I'm getting pretty sick of it. I once asked for a critique on my okcupid profile. People liked to mention my age as if it was the most important thing about me. It's not.
I guess they think it's better for me to meet someone at school or something. Too bad I'm not straight. I can't just randomly meet people like straight people.

My advice pertaining to you meeting people via school was not aged-based. I started university when I was 36.

I think it's primarily because people are scared of "robbing the cradle" if they are older than about 35. They also believe a person's age indicates a person's experience in life.

I bet I can only meet friends at school. It's impossible for queer people to meet people for dating at school. Only straight people can do that.

It gets easier if you're in a university town.

I already live in a university town.

Hi,

and for the record I am a straight bi,
a bit left of center on the Kinsey scale ( if you know what that is),

I just wanted to ask you,
do you mean you are gay, or queer?
because in the LGBTQ community those two terms are different things.

and are you looking for someone your own age or someone a bit older?

I mean queer. My sexuality is indescribable :(. I'm more attracted to slightly older, but I'm open to a lot because of my lack of experience.
