Yes, the conjoining apparently creates a new amalgamated personality that is neither the Symbiont nor the Host, but rather a mixture of the two. In total there have been (amalgamated personalites) Lela Dax, Tobin Dax, Emony Dax, Audrid Dax, Torias Dax, Joran Dax, Curzon Dax, Jadzia Dax, and Ezri Dax.

There are 3 people/personalities involved: the host only, the symbiont only, and the mixed personality of both.
