I hope this isn't too geeky but I saw a thread like this on Slashdot once and I thought it was great.
Most buttons, switches, levers etc. are pretty boring but some beg to be used. Think about it for a bit or maybe you don't have to.

I'll go first. Emergency brake on a train. Bright red, often behind glass and you get fined for using it. When you pull that thing it's not going to go unnoticed. Your mom would definitely disapprove.

Anything with stop or delete on it.

Mute buttons are convenient but that really sounds like I'm being told to shut up.

Anyway.. Dipswitches are pretty awesome. For those that don't know they're tiny switches, usually a row of them, and you'd find them inside the device.
I think those are cool because you really need a manual to use them right and ofcourse because they're inside the machine most people would never even find them.

Also SysReq. I don't even remember what that does.

Hey if nobody wants to talk about this, fair enough, just let it drop off the page.

I like this thread. By mute button, I was thinking of the TV remote control. There are a lot of annoying sounds on TV but I like the visuals.

I also like to turn down or off the telephone ringer.
