What can one say?

One more thing to be depressed about.

The world's heritage is being lost - wildlife species to poachers, and ancient architecture sites to fanatics.

This minor, yet annoying wrinkle in the fabric of human history, can easily be solved with nuclear weapons.

So if we commit nuclear genocide against innocent civilians- murder more people than ISIS is murdering, and destroy more stuff than ISIS is destroying- this will...somehow magically hurt ISIS in some strategically important way?

Walk us through your logic step by step please.

Point to the map and show us where you would deploy a nuclear weapon where a nuke would NOT kill millions of innocent folks (whose only crime is being themselves victims of ISIS) but WILL interfere with ISIS.

Their stronghold in Mosul would be a perfect target for neutron bombs.

Yeah, I think going nuclear may be a bit much. However, these people are committing atrocities on a daily basis, and all the rest of the world seems to do is wring their hands and throw a few token bombs. I'm to the point that I am tired of hearing about this nonsense. Do something or stop moralizing, World!

Neutron bombs are subtler than traditional nuclear weapons.

Still overboard. And besides, technically there aren't supposed to be any neutron bombs around since The U.S. and the Soviets banned them by treaty.

Not at all. It is the perfect weapon for rat infested places like Mosul.

They could be manufactured in no time.

ISIS and everyone whose allegiance is with them needs to be blown off the face of the f*****g planet, no ifs, ands or buts. f*****g SCUM and all their sympathizers. Nobody is stopping their destruction and it's time someone f*****g did.

I feel the same way--but nuking them wouldn't solve the problem; it would only exacerbate it.

So... murder the million citizens of Mosul to kill the few hundred ISIS fighters who are there?

This is the same tactic used by the Al Qaeda or something in Afghanistan.

Utter despicable, but raises interesting questions.

Many "western" state-sanctioned talking heads (and hence, the general public) are quick to jump into the banal "they're evil mindless thugs" bandwagon, but some people suggested that there is more to it.

As medieval as they are, the ISIL here to stay. Despite repeated attempts by multinational forces to destroy them, they remain stronger than ever. Similar to what happened in Afghanistan, the crazy militant group (not really applicable to ISIL, but whatever) is pretty much in control of the country, unlike the puppet governments we propped up. But, predictably, the "west" refuses to treat them like a legitimate governing body. So to attract our attention, they turn to wreaking priceless national treasures. Brutal, but obviously works a hell lot more than the standard "murder civilians" thing which is pretty practised by any belligerent state these days, one way or the other.

But let's face it, the "west" will never negotiate with them. Our governments would rather continue to fund ailing pseudo-democracies (read puppet states)...

And seriously, that's why there is no end to this s**t. Too many people are caught up with this simpleton NUKE ALL OF THEM SCUM mindset. Yes, they are evil, but people join them because they are desperate. Tribalism also plays a large role: people would rather side with scumbags with a shared history than foreign shit-heads. Yes, we are shit-heads to them because we spout platitudes about freedom and democracy while drone-bombing innocent civilians and supporting unpopular dictators.

So maybe we should leave them alone. True, they are disgusting, but I don't hear anyone suggest that we should invade nations such as Saudi Arabia for their 13th century BC mindset regarding people without penises. Plus, unlike those failed governments we insist on propping up, they can actually run the damn crazy country.
