The star of many Disney films (most notably The Love Bug) and originated the character Bobby in Sondheim's Company is dead at the age of 84. Here's his performance of what, IMO, the best male torch song of the 1970's, Being Alive. www.youtube.com/watch?v=am8qrrZAtP4

I'll always know him as Jim Douglas from The Love Bug.

RIP Dean Jones.

Whenever I thought of him, I always thought of the movie Beethoven about the Saint Bernard. He played the evil veterinarian.

Awww, I loved him (I remember him from "Herbie the Love Bug", as well). R.I.P.

I remember watching Jones since I was a little kid; I guess I somehow thought he'd be around forever, since he had been around for my entire life.

...When I was 10 , I went along with my mother and my aunt and saw the original Broadway production of Company - Mom was showing her sister NYC .
However , we saw a matinee , so I suppose it was not Jones in the lead...........

Unfortunately, Jones left the show about a month after it opened. He was replaced by Larry Kert, which is who you probably saw at the matinee.

...OK , thank you . Why'd he leave ? You know ?
I sort of think understudies do the matinee for stars (in " big " Broadway/similar productions) , so.........

^^^
According to the article I saw online (which is where I also found the video of Mr. Jones recording Being Alive), he was having marital problems at the time.
