Are they the kind made with real Indian heads?

Those weren't technically coins, though they were used as currency. I don't think the US ever honored them though.

perhaps not, but there were plenty of people willing to exchange cash for 'em

Are that all official currencies? The 'XY something dollar' ones?

Euro cent are obscure? That cracked me up in the very first moment. I have tons. Naturally.

I think dollars are obscure to me. I know what a one dollar note looks like...

I was like, huh, do they have coins in the US??

I have had coins and notes from Gibraltar, the Isle of Man (both from trips there) and Jersey. Spending non-UK sterling notes in UK shops would be nigh on impossible; hell, many English shops won't accept Scottish and Northern Irish banknotes!

I've seen rectangular coins, once and I think they were from Denmark.

I usually change to Bank Of England notes
when I cross the border in order to avoid any awkward situations. The silliest example
I've heard of was when a London Branch of
a Scottish bank refused to accept Scottish notes (printed by their own head office) . :?
I've got a Northern Irish note which I like as
it seems to be made out of plastic rather than paper.
I also have a Massachusetts Bay Transport
token which could pass for a pound coin
in unscrupulous hands.

Once for a Halloween party I dressed up as a USA Confederate General (Civil War era). Before getting to the party I popped into a shop for some film, and the blike behind the counter asked me "Yer not going to pay for this with Conferate dollars, are you?"

Wished I'd thought of that ! !!

We used to have 50 cent pieces here
and 1 and two dollar bills
the one dollar bills phased out before I was born, but I remember the 2 dollar bills quite well
I have all sorts of old coins

I do it all the time and hate it. One gal said they didn't accept gold coins. It was a Sacajawea dollar coin. I asked to speak to her manager, eventually she got him and he said yes they do take gold coins. I don't know what that girl's problem was, it's US Currency.

Most of the strange currencies I have are from my dad. He's real into money. For christmas he gave me 2 dollar bills. Well, I didn't hesitate to spend them all just like those Sacajawea and George Washington dollar coins. I get pi**ed if they don't accept them b/c like I said, it's US Curency or they wouldn't make them.

I don't really own any obscure currency. The closest is a few American coins that occasionally get mixed in with the Canadian ones, but no one here seems to notice or care about it.
