There is no "defence" in the NFL--only in hockey!

You only spelled it wrong if you're American. Canadians, Brits, and Aussies spell it defence. Probably most other English speaking countries, too. Most Europeans that learn English in school also learn British usage.

Oh, I think they may play defence in the CFL, though.

Interesting that their field is 110 yards instead of 100 meters, too. I mean, it's virtually the same but they mark it in yardage---midfield is 55 yards, not 50 meters. :?:

In American football, midfield is the 50 yard line. The whole field is 100 yards long.

Canadians football has 110 yard fields and the 55 yard line is midfield. There's also only 3 downs, to American football's 4 downs.

Quote, "There is no "defence" in the NFL"...

FWIW, if some NFL team came knocking at my door tonite wanting me to kick for them (that's about the only position I could play), I would continue to use the spellings "offence" and "defence" as I believe using the "Queen's English" as much as possible is the right thing for someone like me who pledged their loyalty to Great Britain despite being stuck on US soil.

It doesn't matter to me--but it would matter to most NFL football players.

One time, when I was working for the Census, I wanted to use the European "7." I was told not to--because it "UnAmerican" LOL

I bet taking my oath of allegiance to the UK would likely disqualify me to work for the US Census.
FWIW, I do not cross my 7's or 0's, as I don't consider numerals part of the alphabet.
(Of course my scribbling looks a lot like a third or fourth grader's printing, so crossing numbers might add confusion.)
The NFL players and staff would have to realise that I no longer consider myself an American, only a US resident, thus they would have to get used to my variations in spellings the same way they would taking on a player born abroad.
(But beware, If I ended up on one of the teams that flies to the UK to do the exhibition game at Wembly, I may decide not get on the return flight back, terminating my football career.)
