??? Who knows what a NT may (or not) be thinking at any given time. Clearly, this is an analogy. Ask. NT needs to be more specific. You may not be driving.............who's reading the map?

It sounds like a figure of speech. You need to tell your therapist that those types of phrases don't make sense to you and she needs to be literal.

Perhaps she is mixing you up with another patient.

Yeah, to drive the bus is an old idiom meaning to control something. If she says "I drive the bus" in a meeting, it may be admonishing you that SHE wants to control the meeting. If she says "YOU drive the bus" it may mean you control your own life.

She really DOES need to be clearer.

Is this a therapist that specialises in AS? If so she should really know not to use metaphors like that!

she's probably saying that you are asking her what you should do too often, and you are supposed to choose.

BTW I, for one, am going to try to make sure I don't say things like that, even though I think I have generally explained them as well. A coworker recently paid me a compliment saying that I generally take a bit longer to answer a question, and may rephrase mid sentence and make everything fit, to remove ambiguities.

Don't feel bad! She should, if she is conscientious, educate herself about AS as she has a client with it. It wouldn't take her long to get the basics, and AS people taking metaphorical things literally really is one of the basics and so should be avoided by a therapist!! !

lol, it just means that you are the one who has to make the choices and control your life, not her... you are maybe relying on her too much and this is her way of saying that.

That has to be it. She can't possibly mean anything else.
